Wood is a sustainable raw material (with proper forest management) . But does simply building with wood automatically make us a sustainably minded and acting company? Not quite. Sustainability is reflected in the work of every employee, extending from project execution and occupational safety to the selection of suitable raw materials and processes along the entire value chain. We live by the philosophy of using all our resources responsibly and mindfully .

To put this in perspective: An average single-family home made of solid wood contains approximately 40 m³ of wood. This amount regrows in Europe in about 2 seconds.
In a single day, enough wood grows back to build 43,200 single-family homes.

Raw material wood

The ratio of growth to harvest in Europe’s forests reflects the principle of sustainability . Unlike deforestation in tropical rainforests, forestry in Europe is subject to strict regulations. Forestry laws mandate reforestation after logging (FSC and PEFC). Each year, 773 million cubic meters of wood grow here, but less than two-thirds of this is harvested. As a result, Europe’s timber reserves increase by almost 300 million cubic meters annually.

In rainforests, trees grow on weathered and nutrient-poor soils, forcing them to draw their nutrients from the surrounding biomass. Furthermore, short cycles of deforestation and reforestation lead to soil damage that makes replanting nearly impossible. In contrast, European forests grow on mineral soils from which trees can readily obtain their nutrients.

For these reasons, we source our wood from the cultivated forests of Europe.

Forestry against climate change

Forestry plays a crucial role in addressing climate change . Trees absorb CO2 _from the atmosphere, converting it into plant biomass . When trees die, the decomposition of this biomass releases the CO2 _back into the atmosphere. Using wood in construction allows for long-term CO2 _storage , thus making a positive contribution to climate protection .
